"Terrorists hate freedom." You hear this over and over again from George Bush. This is a fabrication that is used to distract us from the complexities of the War On Terror. This falsehood is perpetuated to simplify the debate and make the distinction between good and evil as wide as possible. Us versus them. Right versus wrong.

It's a ridiculous notion. If it were true, terrorists would be terrorizing Iceland. How come we never hear about the attacks on the free citizens of Switzerland? They're attacking us because they hate us. Palestinians attack Israel because they hate Israel. Chechnyans attack Russia because they hate Russia. They don't hate freedom, they hate lack of freedom - their own.

'mmmmbacon' has been my email address on yahoo for the last four years. It was, of course, inspired by Homer Simpson, and his love of all things pork. I share with Homer a love of bacon that drives me to consume it often, despite my earnest desire to stay healthy. It is this kind of inner turmoil that makes me the lovable guy I am. Or so my wife tells me, anyway.

Anyway, this site is my vanity space on the internet. I.e., where you go to find out more about me than you'd probably ever ask for. It's a place for me to write things to a hypothetical audience, and also to have a place to store interesting links I find and share them in true blog fashion.

Finally, one of the biggest reasons for me to have this site is to play around with the technology that makes it happen. This site uses Drupal, a Content Management System (CMS) based on PHP and MySql. It's easily customizable and I plan to customize it. The impetus for that came from my desire to volunteer for the Howard Dean campaign, and they are using this technology. So this site is partly my efforts to become relevant to that cause.

In the time it takes my dog Anneka to decide whether she wants to lick the cream cheese off of my fingers, I decided I like bidets. No, I love bidets. That was the single most rewarding surprise about my first ever visit to Japan... motorized bidets that start running water as soon as you sit down so that when you do decide to annoint your anus with a loving jet of water, it has had a chance to warm up. Let's hear a round of applause for the Japanese. Come on, give it up.

Anyone who's ever had hemhorroids knows exactly what I'm talking about.
